Poetry - Visions of the Future

Poetry - Visions of the Future

Inspired by Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ Speech, followed by a discussion of their visions of the future, pupils in Creative Writing Club produced the following poems:

Think

Think

One moment could save a life

Think

One heartbeat, one lifetime

Think

You can make it or break it

Think

You have no time to lose

Think

Every second counts

Think

Stay focused, don’t hesitate

Think

All your training and hours,

All the nights you stayed up to revise,

All the blood, sweat and tears,

It ALL leads up to this,

So take a deep breath and

Think!

One Day

One day

The end of racism will come

One day

We will stand as one

One day

We will break society’s unjust rules

One day

We will show them that we’re no fools

One day

We will continue to demand what is right

One day

We will realise the reward was worth the fight

One day

Difference we will allow

One day soon,

However it should be now.

Imagine

 Imagine

Clean, clear seas and oceans

Imagine

Fish eating what suits them

Imagine

No dead coral

Imagine

No plastic killing turtles

Imagine

No oil killing sea birds

Imagine

Whales flourishing

Imagine

What could change.

Do you see it?

Do you see it?

Children playing together, different races

 Do you see it?

Toddlers pushing a kid round in a wheelchair

Do you see it?

Slum kids trading cards with city kids

Do you see it?

Girls helping boys with their makeup

Do you see it?

Teenagers supporting one another, waving Pride flags

Do you see it?

I wish I could see it now.
