Y9 Valentine's Poems

Taking inspiration from Carol Ann Duffy's poem 'Valentine',  students wrote their own poignant and beautiful, or humorous and light-hearted poems.

THE SHELL THAT TRAVELLED FOR YOU

Here I present you a shell.

It has been washed up on ancient shores, where we once walked,

I hope this is no shock, but it is better than the decrepit clock.

Singing, dancing, partying and chanting my love,

This shell has helped me declare my love,

It is no customary shell.

Truly priceless and eventful,

Every night it gets washed up by the fulfilling sound of the poignant waves.

A little reminder that this shell has once had its hands full.

Life is like the voyage of a wave.

But like the shell has the sand I have you.

I hope you do not mind the absence of chocolate and flowers.

But there is no need as my love for you is worth more than the Eiffel Tower.

What is Love?

Love is happiness;

Adoration, Inclination, Predilection.

Never tedious, always true passion.

Love can be humorous.

Love can create a forever caring family.

I believe love can be diverse.

Love is like a burning flame,

and it sure can never be claimed.

Not a red nose or a satin heart.

I give you a flower.

It is a nice flower.

It promises love

like the sun.

Here.

It will make you happy

like a happy person.

It will make your day very good

I am trying to be truthful.

Not a lying.

I give you a lots of flowers

Its fresh and will stay fresh in the sun

as we are,

for as long as we are.

Take it. Its a rose  if you like.

It’s for you if you will take it

I love you and I hope you love me too.

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you a gluestick.

It is a strange present, I know, but

I promise it has meaning,

Like everything in the world does.

Here.

It will help you in “sticky” situations

Like a friend.

I am being truthful.

Not a box of chocolates or a teddy bear.

I give you a gluestick.

It’s a symbol of togetherness.

To show that I will always stick with you

And will be by your side forever.

As long as we are together.

Take it.

It’s a token of my love.

And when we are in different places, you’ll think of me.

Just like I’m always thinking of you.

For I am the Lister to your Walker.

A key to my heart

I give you a key.

It’s a key to my heart.

I know it may not be as good as money

But a key is what I want you to have.

This key has never left my possession

But I felt I must give it to you.

As you are my new obsession

And you never fear to love me the way I do.

I want you to hold it close to your heart

As it is a sacred gift.

I have never offered something like this before

But then again I have never felt like this before.

This new feeling is strange to me

I hope you can guide my way

Through this field of mystery.

I hope you don’t lead my heart astray.

I know you have felt this feeling before

So I hope I am enough

For you to not walk out that door.

I pray you don’t believe this is a bluff.

As for my feelings for you

Are no more than real.

I will never feel blue

As my heart is yours to steal.

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you a can of hairspray.

A bottle filled with stickiness.

It promises that sticky love.

The kind of love that makes you want to take it off.

Here.

It will make you need it for a while.

Like a lover that is here to stay.

It will make you look nice for some time but then it wears off

And you need to wash it off.

I am trying to be truthful.

Not a single bit of hair out of place.

I give you a can of hairspray.

Its sticky fumes will stay with you and only when u wash it off,

will it come off.

As we are, for as long as we are.

Take it.

It’ll remind you of us.

You may spray it on, but after a while you have got to take it off.

If you want it, of course.

It's hard metal outer shell makes it seem like it's tough,

but the inside will stick to you and your hair.

How do I Know?

What is this?

This feeling when they are near,

Poisonous like a snake.

Keeping me alive enough to hear their words,

But too paralysed to reply.

Am I dying?

Am I sick?

Or am I in love?

It is too hard to pick.

Am I falling to my grave?

Or falling down so deeply,

That I might just get crushed anyway.

I am moth to a flame now,

It is far too late to run away.

How do I know?

To let myself go,

And drink this red venom willingly.

How do I know,

This ink won't turn black far too quickly,

And kill me.

The car and the duck

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you a Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T-GDi Ultimate (s/s) 5dr
It is an expensive car worth £32,960.
It promises first year road tax
like the Vauxhall Crossland X SRI NAV 1.2 5dr.

Here.
It will drive to work and back

like a normal car.
It will make your MINI Hatch 2.0 Cooper S Sport (s/s) 3dr.

I am trying to be truthful

Not an exaggerating salesman.

I give you a duck.
It’s a male; will stay in the pond
and eat our stale bread.

Take it.
It’s your duck and Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T-GDi Ultimate (s/s) 5dr
if you like.
It’s a nice duck and the car is comfy.
Its very cool and will help you in the long run.
Not the duck, the car.

Best Dog Ever

You’re always there when I need you,

So helpful in times of despair,

Always acting so cute,

This special day is for you,

For the one who knows me best,

The one who always listens.

I couldn’t have wished for better...

Best dog ever!

My Valentine’s Poem

I give you a ring

It is a sign of trust

It promises my love for you

Like the loyalty you must

Please.

Be with me until we are older

Like a magnet

It will bring us closer

I am trying to be truthful

Not a backstabbing liar

Do the same with me

And close your eyes and listen to the choir

I give you a place in my life

It will stay there forever

For as long as

we are together

  Take it.

You’re the only one I want

It will make me happy

But I know you can’t…

by Elisha A

When I wake early in the morn,

Every day is new,

And I am grateful as I know,

I shall die loving you.

As I sit alone and prey to what is true,

I thank the lord that one day,

I will die loving you.

Now when I lay,

I think so exceedingly of you,

And I thank the world that,

I died loving you.

I give you a locket.

It is a family heirloom, one of my only prized possession.

It promises me that you’ll smile

And for that alone, it’s worth it.

Here.

It’ll remind you of me,

When I can’t sneak around the castle to see you.

It’ll mean a piece of me shall always be with you.

I’m being truthful.

I’ll see you again tomorrow night.

 I give you a ring.

Its venerable diamond will stay shining

Beautifully and gracefully

For as long as we are together.

Take it.

It’s yours now,

Yours forever.

A Withered Rose

The clock chimes ‘8:00’ it is morning

The 14th

The house is empty. Just me. Alone, alone.

I’ll get no gift, no card, no call.

The blinds unfurl

I look past the window, the trees, the hills.

A withered rose, under a slaughtered tree.

Perhaps I am not alone.

Across the street, a couple sits, grinning.

“Give me a break.”
