Lockdown Poetry

LOCKDOWN POEM

by Kheira P - Y7

There once was a virus

That caused lots of death and alarm

But the people kept on fighting

To stop it from causing harm

New rules were set in place

That everyone had to obey

Work stopped, schools shut

Time dragged, every single day

But some people kept on working hard

Like the NHS

Police force, fire men

They never got to rest

But even in those times of uncertainty,

In those times of isolation,

People came together to support those,

Who are trying to save the Nation.

Only supermarkets are open

Seeing people queueing two metres apart

People looking scared of others

Breaks everyone’s hearts

Even though this brings the worst

There are positive aspects too

The sun comes out and birds sing

The sky no longer grey, but blue

Families having fun

Parents learning to home school

Kids now prefer their teachers

As they were really cool

People who would feel lonely

Find friends who really care

About how they are feeling

And will always be there

Because even though we are far apart

We have never been closer together

We are all each other’s friends

And we will stay like that forever.

We will survive… There is hope yet

a poem by Georgina P Y8

2020 has been no easy ride

Wondering who of us will survive

Schools shut down

And there were no workers for miles around

Shops were a no go

As well as our friends as we did not know

How they were

Our futures all became a blur

Until someone spoke out

And started to shout

LET’S CELEBRATE TOGETHER!

And they were right…

When we go out and clap and celebrate our world

When we shout and scream from over the road

When we bang our saucepans and pretend our family is a band

That is when our day brightens up

When its sunny on a Thursday.

When we need to get away go outdoors

To get a breath of fresh air

Though on an everlasting walk,

To nowhere and everywhere

To remind us of the real world again

One day we can always do this

Is when the day we clap and cheer

And raise the roof

And celebrate

When its sunny on a Thursday

Years go by and years will past

And children will never look back

To the time that we had to be inside

To save thousands upon thousands of lives

The pain that so many people have

Of those who have departed

We will never forget those who were lost

And how much they meant to us

But we clap for them

When its sunny on a Thursday.

Forever more I should hope

That the fear of COVID will provoke

Strong emotions we will not forget

How friends are the best

How much we need our family

How we love seeing people’s faces

In real life

We will forevermore hold them dear

In our hearts

When we bang our drums

We make a wish that someday it will end

And we will wish

When its sunny on a Thursday

In life we make the best

To look after those

Who need the most

Whether that be company

Or a good old chinwag

And we scream for those who need our help

When its sunny on a Thursday

Let us all hope we stay this way

Where we are so glad to see people go away

On holiday.

Let us love and live

And always forgive

For anything we have done

Remembering that human hope

Will surely be

That it will always be sunny on a Thursday.

  1. Nice ideas and use of repetition to tell that we can look on the bright side of lockdown too.
