More Y7 #FilltheBox #NationalWritingDay @FirstStory

First Story’s annual celebration of creative writing is on 23 June, 2021.

Your voice is powerful. Use it on National Writing Day and beyond.

This National Writing Day writers are challenged to #FilltheBox with a piece of creative writing – a poem, a letter, a story – using the theme of connection. Whether it’s in 280 Twitter characters or on a post-it sized piece of paper, there’s a space to write for everyone.
Some more examples from Year 7:

Grandma

I miss the way you let me style your hair,

even though it would look awful.

I miss the way you shouted at me for

making patterns on the stairs with cupcake cases

or when I would make a mess in the kitchen

whilst ‘helping’ you bake something sweet.

I miss when my parents would be annoyed with you

for spoiling me

with random things

I never needed.

Connection keeps you in contact.

Open your heart

Never be afraid,

Near me.

Enough is enough!

Can we refresh?

Time to connect.

By Imogen

Locked inside, feeling like I’m trapped in a cage.

Connecting with friends online wondering when I’ll see them again.

Talking to teachers behind a screen thinking ‘When will I be free?’

Seeing my friends from a distance again was the reason I smiled again.

Connecting with others online was never the same.

Come to them to have fun

Online or face to face stuff

Never do the wrong

Never doubt yourself

Every day is fun with you

Cool things we do together

Time flies by with you.

 Believe in yourself.

By Xander

No matter where you are, be connected

No matter who you are, be connected

No matter what is happening, be connected

No matter:

Be connected.
