Beneath The Crown
A Tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth ll
Her eyes
shift, left to right,
Handbag adjusted.
All eyes on her,
awestruck entirely.
Who is she really?
Does she truly have such intent?
Is it planned meticulously?
Or spontaneous?
Who is this woman who rules above us?
Known by all below –
By every
citizen of our United
Kingdom.
The image of grace, femininity.
Broach adorning her breast pocket,
Gloves of silk clasped at her waist.
A dress of the finest materials.
This is our queen.
How can this woman, who seems...
So much like us,
Have power over us all?
Should we know our queen,
Like we know our friends and family?
Or should she remain veiled,
Behind a mask
Of monarchs and prime ministers.
The men and women,
Who live such shielded, sheltered lives.
Does her majesty
Want to rule for the people?
Or rule for the royals?
The crown rests heavy
On her hidden head.
I want to know her,
Know her like I know
The scandals that keep piling up.
Oh, just to
see her clearly -
See who she
was.
